People, Platform, Progress

Supply chains don't run on software alone. They run on people who care about getting it right, and who wake up a little annoyed when they don't.

Shipwell was built by people who'd seen the inside of enough broken logistics operations to know exactly what needed to change. Ten years in, that same instinct drives everything we build, everyone we hire, and every customer problem we refuse to walk away from.

This is the story of how we got here.

The Shipwell Story

The Origin

Greg Price and Jason Traff met at MIT with résumés that looked nothing alike. Greg had spent years fixing Fortune 100 supply chains at McKinsey. Jason had built and run a global art shipping company out of Shenzhen, employing over 1,000 people across four continents.

Different paths brought them to the same conclusion: supply chain software was fragmented, outdated, and years behind the problem it was supposed to solve. So in 2016, they built something better… and Shipwell was born.

Timeline

The Miles that Made Us

2016
OtterLogic Opens Its Doors

Two MIT grads, one Austin office, and a stubborn belief that supply chains could run smarter. Shipwell (then OtterLogic) was off.

2017
A Name Built for What's Next

OtterLogic became Shipwell right as we moved our first shipment. The new name said what we intended to become: a platform for all of freight, not just OTR.

2018
$12M and a Best in Show

Key ELD partnerships brought real-time driver tracking to the platform. The Automated Check Call feature won Best in Show at MarketWaves18. A $12M Series A followed in October.

2019
Drivers, Drayage, and a $35M Series B

Shipwell's first mobile app put real-time visibility in drivers' hands. FedEx parcel, freight, and drayage support launched. Series B closed at $35M in October.

2020
First Time on the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™

Supply chains made headlines. Shipwell went fully remote and doubled down on customers. Gartner added us to the TMS Magic Quadrant, while Forbes called us a Next Billion Dollar Startup.

2021
140 People, One Connected Supply Chain

Pricing Intelligence, Compass Dashboard, and Responsive ETAs shipped. AI-powered exception management launched. Gartner kept us on the Magic Quadrant. The team kept building.

2022
3.5x Revenue Growth, Double the Customers

SaaS revenue tripled. Customer count doubled. NPS hit 66. Net revenue retention reached 139% — while plenty of supply chain tech companies were announcing layoffs.

2023
51% Growth In a Freight Recession.

The market softened. Shipwell grew anyway: 51% year-over-year. Series C closed. Gartner moved us from Niche Player to Challenger. The platform kept shipping.

2024
40% Growth and $50B in Customer Market Cap

Freight volumes doubled. Enterprise customers up 27%. 60,000 monthly active users. Gartner named us a Challenger for the second year running.

2025
Gartner Visionary and 107% More Freight Managed

30% revenue growth. 107% more freight spend managed. AI moved from helpful tool to hands-on teammate. Gartner named Shipwell a Visionary.

2025
Ten Years In, Still Building

The team is more efficient, the platform more capable than ever before. The thing that started this — supply chains should just work — hasn't changed.

Swifty’s Story

Meet Swifty: a bright pink otter who saw a broken supply chain and decided to fix it. In his world, animals couldn't move food and supplies efficiently between their homes. Things arrived late, got lost, and pulled everyone away from the work that actually mattered.

Swifty built a smarter way to move freight. Sound familiar?
