Rules of the road: Keeping up with regulations
Did you know that trucking is one of the most popular jobs in the United States? It's the job that literally moves our economy every single day!
Of course, there are both federal and state government regulations that truckers have to follow. But some of these regulations can seem very limiting, and the cons outweigh the pros.
Shipwell knows what carriers go through every day. Keeping up with regulations can seem like a cat and mouse game, but once you understand how to navigate them, you can unlock a successful carrier operation.
Connecting your ELD
The most notable regulation to comes into play recently is the mandatory installation of ELDs in trucks. ELDs (Electronic Logging Devices) are already mandatory, but those who use an AOBRD (Automatic On-Board Recording Device) are exempt until December 16, 2019.
As ELD regulations lock in for the future, why not take advantage of it now?
Carriers who connect their ELD to Shipwell can provide real-time freight tracking to their 3PLs and shippers with no extra work. Drivers and dispatchers minimize the number of check calls they must take per day and focus on transporting that load. Shippers and 3PLs can access a real-time mapping of each truck via the Shipwell platform and know when and where the load will be.
Connect your ELD with Shipwell to save time, book more loads, and run a more efficient business at no additional cost! Plus, when carriers connect their ELD with Shipwell, we'll cover detention costs and distribute payment in less than 72 hours.

Following the environmental rules
The Environmental Protection Agency is always tightening on the reduction of carbon emissions in freight. Until electric trucks start becoming readily available, there isn't much the industry can do. There will be new regulations rolling out that will change how the industry uses fuel.
While Shipwell can't reduce the carbon emissions in the air, we can help carriers get the most out of being on the road.
Shipwell's real-time freight tracking can see where carriers are going to end up, and our Managed Services team can match them with a load in the area. Reduced deadheads result in less fuel burning when trailers are without loads. We're just trying to help the environment however we can!
Monitoring the Hours of Service
Hours of Service have been around for a while but is monitored more heavily with the introduction of ELDs. Getting a productive day out of the allotted hours can be a challenge, especially with slow docks.
Fortunately, with Shipwell, you can say goodbye to hours in a warehouse lot waiting to get loaded. Our dock scheduling feature is soon to be released and will allow shipments to have a set schedule integrated with shippers software. First come, first served loading is for the birds - you should be getting those miles in on the road!
Regulations will continue to come in and disturb the industry, but carriers are keen to adapt and can continue to be profitable operations.
Shipwell wants to be a part of that operation! We listen to carriers and what they want to make their jobs easier and more efficient. Our platform provides actionable analytics, quick booking, centralized documentation, and instant communication!
